This microflora’s change is effective in the pathogenesis of various diseases, such as infections, inflammations, allergies and immunologic disorders. Recognition of the importance of intestinal microflora has increased the use of probiotics for promoting and maintaining overall health. Probiotics are live microorganisms which cause health benefits on the host if they are used in adequate amount. Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium are the most common probiotic strains. Streptococcus thermophilus and Saccharomyces boulardii are also used as probiotics.
